A Stand-out BNSL Session With Robert McVey
Our recent meeting of Business Networking Leicestershire was, once again, a standout morning. 😊
Rather than a conventional presentation, our group chairman Robert McVey opted for something different — a fun quiz based on famous film staircases. We were shown images of staircases from films and challenged to guess the film. A deceptively tricky task, but thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Thank you, Robert — your quiz format was a terrific way to engage everyone, provoke conversation and remind us of the importance of creativity in networking.

Why His Services Stand Out
-
Specialist — Not just general carpentry, but focused on staircases (both refurbishment and new builds), which is a niche that many find difficult to do well.
-
Quality & workmanship — Reviews mention custom glass panels, oak handrails, careful dismantling of old structures and leaving the site tidy. Birdeye Experience Marketing platform+1
-
Local network-friendliness — Being a member of BNSL means Robert is actively building relationships, understands networking and how to talk about his business (as we saw with the quiz!)
If you or your business have a staircase requiring attention — whether refurbishment of an ageing design, installation of a new contemporary unit, or simply looking to upgrade handrails or banisters — I would strongly recommend reaching out to Robert via his website.
Why This Presentation Worked So Well for BNSL
-
It broke the usual presentation mould by turning his message into an interactive quiz format, illustrating his creativity and willingness to engage the audience.
-
It connected his business topic (staircases) to a cultural touchpoint (films) — which makes his offering more memorable.
-
It reinforced the power of the “60-second pitch” and networking: those who had listened closely to his prior short pitch had a better chance in the quiz.
-
It underlined the value of BNSL’s format: we not only learn what others do, we also experience how they do it (and how they bring themselves to the networking table).
What Should You Do Next?
-
If you have a staircase or interior joinery requirement, check Robert’s website here and get in touch to discuss your project.
-
Reflect on your own networking pitch: could you present your business in a more engaging way (e.g., through a quiz, a challenge, a demo) rather than a standard talk?
-
Follow up with the connections you made at the meeting. Send that quick email, message, or LinkedIn connect while the meeting is still fresh.
-
Come to the next BNSL meeting ready to listen, ask questions and perhaps think: “How could I present differently next time?”
Thanks again, Robert — it was a truly engaging and enjoyable session. 👏
Until the next BNSL meeting!
