At our latest Business Networking South Leicestershire meeting, Manjit Khangura of ELHR Ltd put members’ knowledge to the test with an entertaining 10-question quiz covering employment law, recent changes affecting employers and employees – and a few questions to discover just how carefully we’ve all been listening to Manjit’s previous presentations!
As an experienced Employment Lawyer and HR Consultant, Manjit regularly helps businesses navigate the complexities of employment law while also supporting employees through difficult workplace situations.

How Good Is Your Employment Law Knowledge?
Manjit’s quiz began with some particularly topical questions covering changes to employment law during 2026.
Members were tested on subjects including:
- Changes to Statutory Sick Pay
- Employment Tribunal claim time limits
- Day-one paternity rights
- Sexual harassment and whistleblowing
- Enforcement of employment rights
These weren’t necessarily easy questions, but they highlighted something important for every employer: employment legislation changes regularly and getting it wrong can become very expensive.
Manjit helps businesses understand their obligations and put appropriate procedures in place before a problem develops.
Employment Law Isn’t Something to Leave Until Things Go Wrong
One of the key messages behind Manjit’s presentation was the value of getting professional HR and employment law advice at the right time.
A disciplinary matter, grievance, redundancy or performance issue may initially appear relatively straightforward. However, following an incorrect process can expose an employer to unnecessary risk.
Through ELHR Ltd, Manjit provides businesses with support across areas including:
- Performance and capability
- Disciplinary procedures and grievances
- Restructuring and redundancy
- TUPE
- Employment contracts
- Settlement agreements
- Training
- Employment Tribunal matters
- Exit interviews and talent retention
ELHR can provide either a cost-effective one-off consultation or a fixed-price package depending upon the complexity of the situation.

Supporting Employees Too
Manjit’s experience isn’t limited to advising employers.
She also supports employees and workers who find themselves facing difficult situations at work, including disciplinary allegations, dismissal and other employment disputes.
This can include assistance with:
- Disingenuous or gross misconduct allegations
- Disciplinary hearings
- Trade Union representation
- Settlement agreements
- Unfair dismissal
- Constructive dismissal
- Wrongful dismissal
- Discrimination
- Whistleblowing
- Redundancy
Having experience of employment disputes from different perspectives gives Manjit a valuable understanding of how workplace disagreements develop – and, importantly, how they can sometimes be resolved before reaching an Employment Tribunal.
Employment Tribunals Can Be Expensive
Manjit also reminded the group of the potential financial consequences when an employment dispute escalates.
A single day at an Employment Tribunal can result in substantial legal costs, before considering management time, disruption to the business, reputational damage or any compensation that may ultimately be awarded.
For many SMEs, getting appropriate professional advice early can therefore be considerably more cost-effective than attempting to resolve a complex employment matter without specialist support.
If you’re dealing with an employment issue and aren’t certain about the correct procedure, speaking to Manjit before taking action could save considerable time, stress and expense.
But Then the Questions Became Personal…
After testing our knowledge of employment law, Manjit changed direction.
The final questions tested how much BNSL members actually know about Manjit herself!
Members were asked questions including:
- Which university did Manjit attend?
- What does CIPD stand for?
- What are the names of her children?
- What are the names of her dogs?
- And perhaps most importantly – what’s her other half called?
Suddenly all those weekly 60-second presentations and previous 10-minute talks became rather important!
It was a fun way to finish the quiz and another reminder that BNSL networking isn’t simply about knowing what somebody’s business does. Over time, members get to know the people behind the businesses too.
And the Winner Was…
Congratulations to Tom Simpson of Torr Waterfield, who demonstrated an impressive combination of employment law knowledge and careful listening to take first place!
The quiz created plenty of discussion around the room while managing to make a potentially complicated subject both accessible and entertaining.
